Mission & Values

A Vision statement outlines what we want to be. It concentrates on the future. It is a source of inspiration.
A Mission statement tells us what we are now. It concentrates on the present. It defines our path.

VISION
Liquid Courage aspires to reach the echelon of prominent guilds, to be recognized by other guilds and by the game development community because of our comprehensive approach to gaming.

MISSION
Our purpose for World of Warcraft is…

to beat the game through a successful experience of all game elements;
to provide social activities in and out of the game;
to maintain a culture of mature behavior.

CORE VALUES

FRIENDSHIP
Liquid Courage values building relationships with guildmates. We do not exist for the purpose of playing World of Warcraft; our purpose is to build friendships with each other. When the game ends or game content becomes difficult then friendships often end, which leads to the implosion of guilds. Hence, we exist for our friends and use the game to further our friendships. Here are some examples of this value exemplified in our guild.

    *      We base guild decisions on how it will foster or enhance friendships.
    *      We discourage members from being in other ‘active’ guilds, because dual memberships lead to difficult choices of helping one set of friends over another.
    *      We strongly encourage all new members to focus first on making new friends. In many cases these friendships grow into the real world’ and even greater rewards can be reaped as a result.

LOYALTY
Liquid Courage values reliability and longevity in guild membership which builds trust and develops friendships. Our guild is based on friendship and trust, this takes time and a stable environment to develop; therefore we value loyalty in our members.

TEAMWORK
Liquid Courage values the group’s benefit over the individual’s personal gain. To achieve the guild’s purpose, to build friendships, and to complete game content, we must act as a team. To further explain what teamwork is, here are a few things it is NOT:

    *      Teamwork is not having a loot focus and getting all worked up when an item drops that you don’t win.
    *      Teamwork is staying with your group even when something else comes up that you would rather do more.
    *      Teamwork is going out of your way to help your fellow guild members.
    *      Teamwork is providing your services as a crafter for free to guild members.
    *      Teamwork is playing your character how it needs to be played as an integrated part of the larger group that is working together to accomplish something.

When there is a lack of teamwork, friendships will suffer and trust breaks down. When this happens, members don’t want to be around each other anymore, and the guild breaks down. We value team players.

MATURITY
Liquid Courage values restraint and good character. It is possible to be a loyal team-focused friend and guildmate and still behave like a total moron and cause harm to yourself and the guild. Examples of what is not mature or professional behavior is detailed in The Code of Conduct.

MEMBER INFLUENCE
Because Liquid Courage asks its members for their loyalty, each member is highly valued and is more than just a number on a list. This mindset doesn’t mean that every idea a member comes up with must be implemented. However it does mean that every member can feel confident that if they have ideas, issues or feedback that they can take them to Kilkenny or another person in leadership and have them seriously reviewed and, whenever possible, fixed or implemented.

The mindset of every member being important starts at the top and it pervades every aspect of the guild. You may not always agree with a guildmate but, regardless of the differences of opinion, each person remains important to the team.

FAMILY FRIENDLY
Liquid Courage values its members who wish to play with their children in a kid-safe environment. What exactly does this mean? It is not uncommon to be in a raid and suddenly have somebody needing to take an emergency break for any number of child related issues, bad dream, dirty diaper, screaming baby…you name it, it’s probably happened. We have many families in the guild with children at various ages; we accept and embrace that as part of our culture. In the case of young children, their player note will say whose child they are. All parents are responsible for their children’s behavior, but we as a guild are more patient with the children, as necessary.
